Sunny day in Singapore

My favourite bus

was 36

It runs from Siglap to Plaza Sing

with a superb view of Supertrees, HDBs

and the Singapore Story

a narrative told incessantly.

5 years later

I found myself on the Other side of Singapore

This time from West Coast

to Tuas, Lim Chu Kang and more

For in the fringes of society

one sees the underclass and the underbelly

faceless people toiling tirelessly

in Superdorms, super-diversity and structural inequality.

Appreciate the migrants, they say

else we can’t survive any other way

We’re a multicultural society

based on efficiency and filial piety

where aunties clear trays

and migrants dream on.

Good at daydreaming and procrastinating.
